Fast Money
There are many reasons to start a business from home. Maybe you don’t want to leave your kids. Perhaps you are just looking to make some money on the side. Possibly, you have a hobby and just want a reason to keep doing it. Plus, there are so many options for selling it’s hard to resist when you have the goods. Online stores make it easy to sell your stuff, either by auction or set price. Some stores are specific for certain types of items (Etsy) and some have a wide range (eBay).
Many crafters have their trade overflowing their homes. The card maker loves to make cards whether they have a reason or not. The beader doesn’t need a reason to string a globe or two. Even the scrap booker generally has more supplies than he/she would ever need. Online shops offer an opportunity to sell and even buy many products that one may or may not want to make on their own. For a crafter who wants to sell, or a non-crafter who wants to buy, Etsy shops (http://www.etsy.com) are available for searching and posting at one’s leisure. As with most seller shops, there is a small listing fee plus a percentage of the sale goes to the site as repayment. Even with the small fees from the sale, crafters can make some fast money just by doing what they love.
eBay (http://www.ebay.com) works much the same, of course. However, it offers a wider variety of items for sale to get fast cash. Anything from old clothes to crafted items can be found there. Still, eBay will charge a listing fee and a percentage of the sale. This is a great option for those trying to clear out some closets or decrease storage. For many, eBay is a perfect side-job. Several people “surf” discount or donation stores for great finds with the sole purpose of selling them online. Although this option costs money in the beginning, it also has the potential of making more money in the end. The other difference for eBay is that the items can be sold via an auction or for a set price. This can give the seller more control on their return or more option for a higher sale price. It also threatens a smaller sale price if they start the auction low to increase bidding.
Another option is Amazon.com (http://www.amazon.com). This site is diverse in that it is a store of its own, but offers the ability for people to sell similar stuff at the same site. Although this may create competition for them, it also brings in a wider customer base. Again, the site makes a fee off of the sale, but there is no charge for listing an item. If the item does not sell, the seller is not charged any money. Amazon is less for homemade or crafted goods and more for books, electronics, etc. Nevertheless, it’s an easy way to make some fast money if you have the merchandise to sell.
Similar, but without the fee, an alternative wide-range site is Craig’s List (http://www.craigslist.org). Recently gaining popularity, Craig’s List gives buyers and sellers a local place to advertise their stuff without paying a fee. Also, these listing are organized by category and browsers just surf the list of postings. Many items on Craig’s List are free, so it’s not essential that money be exchanged. The other difference with this online forum is that sellers and buyers don’t necessarily need an account with the site. If, however, sellers do want to make some fast money, it’s relatively simple to list anything that may be sold.
Whether you’re looking to supplement your income or even to have an income, and don’t want to have to get a payday loan, selling from home is a viable option. Many sites offer ways to sell and even more offer ways to sell more wisely. Whether you choose to sell on Esty or eBay, there is a way to make some fast money with the right goods and time to post and ship them.
